I have been trying to post the new artwork I did a

I have been trying to post the new artwork I did at the residency this past fall but life has made that difficult. From helping with my Grandmother's end of life care, watching her slowly pass away before me, to a painful confrontation within my divided family and of course, the crowning news of the results of a genetic test showing that I am positive for a very serious and rare cancer gene mutation.

With the unfortunate news of this mutation I now am faced with a series of terribly difficult, life and body altering decisions that I must make to keep myself alive. I guess it's good I can say I didn't do this one to myself, I can't blame it on a bad decision or selfish impulse, I can't say I’ll do better next time or that it was simply an accident. This one is different from the rest of my pitfalls these past years. It carries no blame or regret, just an unlucky draw. Perhaps this is what life was preparing me for through the struggle of these years.

I have found a few points of light these past months. In an effort to lessen the pain I carry each day from my injuries, I devoted myself to a strict and rigorous exercise and eating routine. I worked out for up to two hours each day, went to physical therapy 3 times a week, saw my orthopedic doctors regularly, fasted everyday and ate healthier than I ever have in my entire life.

And what do you know, my pain decreased significantly for the first time in three years. I am no longer in a location where I can see my doctors but I am still continuing this routine as best I can. This is a light I am holding onto in this new shade of black I find myself in. I will hold it high to illuminate my way as I move forward into the unknown of this year and the trails that await me there. Letting it stand as a reminder of all I have, can and will overcome.

Stoking many fires!

Been focused on my art @salemartworks these past two weeks. Feels good to just block out all the noise and let my hands do the talking. I can’t wait to show you all the new body of work I’m making!

Some of the seeds budding are ideas that I planted many years ago. So much time has past since their conception and to see them coming to life is a bit surreal.

Getting to play with all types of new techniques and materials, thinking about form and composition from all new perspectives.

And of course… lots of fire!

White walls, a blank slate, opportunity; my studio

For the next two months I will live in this tiny house and make art in all of the facilities in these photos @salemartworks

This wonderland is called Salem Art Works or SAW. It is an arts center, sculpture park and artist community located in the beautiful rolling countryside of Upstate NY in the small town of Salem. SAW invites local, national and international artists of all kinds to come live and work at their facilities with a variety of residences and art exchanges happening throughout the year.

I was invited to their Studio Artist residency which will allow me to use all of their vast array of facilities and equipment. They have glassblowing, welding, blacksmithing, lampworking, casting, foundry, ceramics, woodshop, print shop, painting and more…. I know, it's insane.

Also as a studio artist I will be giving back to the community through teaching and assisting other students and artists as needed. There is no proper way to express how excited I am about this adventure! But if you know me at all, I'm sure you can understand why I am over the moon right now.

There is an amazing community of artists here in residence with me and also some long term folks and staff. Already I have connected so much with them! During my time here I will be able to share knowledge, critiques, collaborations and of course we gather for family lunch and dinner every night. Good thing I got all that group cooking experience at @vegacommunityhonduras !

Feeling SUPER blessed and SUPER inspired.
I have arrived right where I am supposed to be and it feels incredible.

It’s been a wonderful month off the books. Went

It’s been a wonderful month off the books.

Went back to my hometown of Bethlehem, PA at the beginning of July after a few weeks in San Francisco. Of course it’s had its ups and downs… coming home is like that, but overall it’s been such a renewing experience.

Feels so good to be back in my studio.
Lots of time with friends, family and cats.
A bunch of important doctors visits.
Much needed rest and recovery.
Some important decisions made.

Today, my Dad drove me 5 hours North and dropped me off at a new adventure.

Endless gratitude to all the beautiful, badass babes in these photos!
Without them I would not have been able to build the Prism.
And more importantly,
without them I would not have made it through those difficult months.

They cut, they welded, measured and drilled with me.
They listened, they talked, cried and laughed with me.
We built and we loved, together!

Before living at Vega I never lived in such close proximity to so many strong, talented women and wow was it powerful. Each of us shared our lives with each other but not just casual conversation and banter. We opened our souls, telling stories of pain and pleasure, deep trauma and overflowing joy, family and relationships. We challenged each other and felt safe expressing our perspectives. I felt so supported by them, no judgment.

Each of us went through our own struggles during those months.
It wasn't an easy time but for me what made it all worth it was them.
After a long, difficult, hot day; they were there.

We would make dinner together, have a cocktail, sit on the bench, maybe paint something and talk into the late hours of the night unloading our experience of the day and diving into deep questions. By the end, we called it our evening rituals; meeting each night like some kind of witches gathering. It was so beautiful. I miss it.

But girls, look what we did together!
Lets let the Prism stand as a monument to our experience together and all the ways we explored the spectrums of ourselves during that precious time. I cannot look at photos of it without thinking of each of you and honestly, that connection may be the real reason why I make art at all.

So much gratitude to each of you for the love you showed me and for all the hard work you did in bringing this artwork to life.

Cacao is prismatic.

As a plant medicine that has been used in ceremony for thousands of years, cacao holds the powerful ability to open your heart and bring you closer to yourself. Through this new space it clears, transformational shifts are supported. Releasing old patterns and traumas, bringing peace and courage, accessed with cacao as the catalyst.

Just as pure light is both the absence of color and all color itself,
So too does cacao hold the power to turn mystery into wonder.

The Vega Prism, this sculptural mural that encircles the main cacao processing building @vegacommunityhonduras , represents the cycle of this metamorphic process in life, with light as its instrument.

And now we are back around to the thing that inspired it all.
This magical bean that goes by the name of cacao
and the even more magical people that surround it.

We turn the corner and face the front.
The perspective and dimensionality of the prism could almost be forgotten.

It becomes a landscape of abstract color and shape.
The spectrum, broken and wild, not following a defined form like before.

Rigid, contrasting linework bends in uniform at first glance but with a closer look you can see that the steel may be on the same plane on the X and Y axis, however on the Z they are not aligned. Some lines curving inward, others protruding outward, a perspective trick.

I didn’t plan it this way. I was actually going to make a support bracket where the steel bends but after considering what that would do to the mural, I changed my mind.

If I would have put the bracket there then all the steel lines would have been equal on all planes but I actually enjoy the variation. The changes in depth that come from your movement around the piece is exciting. It brings a dynamic that speaks to the disorder in the color spectrum behind the metalwork.

This piece has many perspectives but this is the a

This piece has many perspectives but this is the angle from which I designed the artwork; the turning corner, the added dimensionality of an existing structure.

I like to integrate architecture into my work, using a building as a multifaceted canvas to create with. It's much more natural for me to make art this way. It works with a flow in Taoism you would call, effortless effort. I just look at something, a wall, a building, a corner, a structure and see the piece in my mind's eye in the space. And from there it's just fabrication, the process of bringing it into physical reality, putting the right pieces of material into the right place, which comes down to trusting my hands.

It's harder for me to make standalone works, a sculpture that sits on a pedestal, lone creations pegged on a wall… with far more ease I can design something that grows from something else, taking a space and transforming it into an experience. And that works out because honestly I prefer site specific work, artwork which takes the environment into consideration as opposed to one that functions as a separate idea without the space directly informing it.

This piece exemplifies this intention very well, transforming this corner in particular. The corner of the building, the three dimensionality of the structure's angle, makes the prism come to life and tricks the eye into imagining the other sides of the prism shape that could exist, yet do not. Perhaps I could call it an architectural illusion.

It’s a far more powerful experience in person.

This silver line of light lives on the back of the building, out of sight… yet because of it, all color and form can be born. The light hits the prism and refracts, turning what is unseen into all that can be seen. This week was a major step for psychedelic medicine.

@netflix , the largest subscription based streaming service in the world, released a limited series about psychedelics based on the best-selling book by author Michael Pollan called How To Change Your Mind. In it, it tells us the story of four mind-altering substances, LSD, Psilocybin, MDMA and Mescaline and how these medicines are now being tested and used to treat mental illnesses with UNPRECEDENTED positive results!

I struggle with how to find peace in all the turmoil of our world and I do not use this platform to speak about my political views because I am not intersted in arguing for the obvious, undeniable, how the fuck can we be arguing about this…. issue of womens right to choose or the injustice across the planet against people of color, or the seemingly endless school shootings and this twisted obsession with firearms or the fact that our planet is dying because of us and global warming is so deeply upon us that it will be in my lifetime that I must witness water wars, not to mind the fucking war going on or the massive gap in wealth across world…. And so on and so forth.

However, psychedelics are something I feel I can and want to speak about loudly.
And I will do so more frequently and without censorship or inhibitions.
These medicines are a gift from Planet Earth to us and if there is anything that can shift our consciousness as a whole to surmount these UNPRECEDENTED problems we face… I, with all my heart and every vibration of my soul, believe that it is through psychedelics that we will do it.

One of the reasons I made such a huge shift in my life this past month, in letting go of my bike and the way of life I was living, was not just for my health or due to struggle. It was in part because of psychedelics and how I feel called to contribute to the psychedelic revolution that is building every day.
With my skill set, passion and power, I will be a voice for these medicines and this message.
